New Year's Eve 99/00 was, for me, a really sensational experience: the celebrations in Paris were really wonderful. And more so the people: I've never seen such large crowds.
The Seine bank, including the gardens facing the Eiffel Tower, was absolutely packed with people, as was every available the space where tower was visible from. From where I was standing, near the Eiffel Tower, I could see crowds of people everywhere: on the bridges, on the nearby boats, hanging from their appartment windows too.
